Organic Apples Nourishing Local Organizations

Canadian Health Food Association Donates 400 Organic Apples In Partnership with M.P. Alex Atamanenko to Local Food Cupboard

Nelson, British Columbia– January 25th, 2010 – Today, the Canadian Health Food Association (CHFA) donated 400 organic apples to Member of Parliament for British Columbia Southern Interior, Mr. Alex Atamanenko. Mr. Atamanenko then presented these apples to the Nelson Food Cupboard Society.

The CHFA has selected five Members of Parliament across Canada to whom they will present 400 organic, Canadian-grown apples so that they may donate them to a worthy cause in their riding.

The CHFA is Canada’s largest national trade association dedicated to the natural and organic products industry. The association represents growers, manufacturers, retailers, wholesalers, distributors, and importers of natural and organic products, including foods, vitamin and mineral supplements, herbal products, homeopathics, sports nutrition products, fibres and health and beauty aids. CHFA member products support Canadians seeking optimal health and well-being.

“The CHFA is dedicated to informing Canadians about the benefits in achieving optimal health through the use of natural health and organic products,” said Carl Carter, Director of Regulatory Affairs and Policy Development for the CHFA. “Mr. Atamanenko’s participation demonstrates his commitment to keeping Canadians healthy and informed. We are thrilled that these organic apples are making their way across the country, in this case, offering the visitors at the Nelson Food Cupboard Society a nourishing snack option.”

“I am thrilled to participate in this initiative with the Canadian Health Food Association,” stated Mr. Atamanenko. “The Nelson Food Cupboard is an essential organization which provides assistance to those who need it most in our community. They have established an excellent reputation for promoting and providing healthy eating choices. Their Harvest Rescue, Grow A Row, Holiday Hamper and Healthy Food programs have gained increased participation and respect in the community. And they support local food production! These organic apples will be the perfect addition to the wonderful foods already offered at the organization.”

Lauren Steeg and Jenny Erickson from the Nelson Food Cupboard Society accepted the organic apples on behalf of the organization.
